How Can I Trust God? A Special Message

Hi everyone, I decided to do a separate video, separate from my ABC’s of Contentment series, in light of some events that have happened recently. Let’s face it; you watch the news, you look around, and you think to yourself, “Can I really trust God? Is God really good?” I mean, everywhere you look it seems like the news is talking about someone killing someone, somebody stole this or that; it seems like there’s a lot of crime. Sometimes you ask yourself, “Where were are all of the good people?” That’s a good question. If there’s all of this evil happening, why would such a loving God that Christians often talk about allow so much evil? That’s another good question. You know, we blame God for a lot of bad stuff that happens, and that’s understandable. But the truth is, much of the bad stuff that happens is a result of our sinful nature. It started back with Adam and Eve when they ate that forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil talked about in the Genesis chapter 2. That’s when sin entered the world. Sin is anything we do that’s not pleasing to God. Anything that goes against the Bible; for instance, a lie told about someone, an evil thought told about someone; I could go on and on. Just look back in Exodus, the second book of the Bible, at the Ten Commandments found in Exodus chapter 20. James 2:10 says, “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” So with all of this evil, is there any hope? How do we know we can only trust God? Again, good question. Think about when Jesus walked the earth. Think about all the evil He endured when He was on the cross; He got made fun of, He got spat on, He got his clothes torn off, He got pushed around. If Jesus our Savior endured evil, what makes us think that we should be any different? In John 16:33 Jesus says, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Amen. Isaiah 53:3, the New Living Translation, says that that Jesus is a man of sorrows. He knew pain before you and I did. A long time ago. If He was able to rise from the grave, He can bring us through anything. It’s Jesus that gives us that. It’s through Jesus that we can overcome the world. He gives us hope. And yes, even with all of the evil, there are still good people in the world. Think about it; when you have a tragedy in your community, like a shooting, there’s first responders responding to people, there’s church services; people want to pray for one another. Suddenly strangers become neighbors; tragedy brings people together. A quote I like from Mister Rogers (that’s why I’m wearing this shirt today) says, “You are special.” He says, “Look for the helpers.” It’s when we have tragedy that we find out who the real helpers are, and we see an awesome display of God’s goodness. If Jesus can overcome the world by dying on the cross and rising from the grave, with Jesus, we can overcome anything! While people’s trust may be questionable, God is always good. He can always be trusted. God you’re so good, God you’re so good, God you’re so good, you’re so good to me. Well, that’s it. I’ll see you next time. If you’d like to leave a comment in the comment section after I upload the video, I’d love to hear from you. I’d love to know your thoughts. Bye, God Bless, and stay hopeful.
