My name is Rachael. I’m a writer with cerebral palsy. As my Mission Statement says, my goal is: “To help to serve and meet the needs of others through sharing my life experience of having CP by showing others with disabilities they too need to focus on what they can do, not on what they can’t, as I honor Jesus Christ with my life.”
Although I consider myself to be a very positive person, it doesn’t mean I’m happy all the time. For instance, in one of my writings, I talk about my feelings in first grade when my hands couldn’t write. Sometimes, I wish I didn’t have cerebral palsy, but I know having challenges and depending on other people has taught me a lot. I believe my Christian faith has been the biggest help in learning to cope with my disability so well. I want people to know that having a disability doesn’t mean they can’t do things; they may have to do them differently.
On my blog, I talk about the many adventures and challenges I face with CP. You’ve probably already read the headline on my home page. It says: CAUTION YOU ARE NOW ENTERING FAITH LIVED DANGEROUSLY! DANGER IS MY MIDDLE NAME! I’m the kind of person who will do almost anything for excitement. If someone says, “Rachael, Don’t you think this is a little dangerous?” My immediate response is, “Danger is my middle name!” I was born two months premature on February 8, 1983. Doctors didn’t think I would live because of lack of oxygen to the brain when I was born. Boy, were they in for a BIG SURPRISE! God decided to let me let me live so that he works of God might be displayed in my life. (Read John Chapter 9). Now, here I am 33 years later proclaiming God’s goodness! It is HE that I must give all the glory to for each and every accomplishment/failure and in between. Without Him, I am nothing. I hope you enjoy my writing. If you have any questions, comments, or writing ideas, feel free to let me know. Are you ready for an adventure? Hold On! It’s going to be a bumpy ride! As I often say, Don’t be afraid of the bumps in the road and be prepared to live dangerously!
